What's New in 2.0?
New Features:
- Now works with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4 and 2000.
- Import files in Word 6.0, Word 97 and HTML formats.
- Publish as HTML feature (with proper paragraph formatting for fiction and
a reasonable stab at screenplay formatting).
- Improved spellchecker (better with words containing apostrophes when using
the British dictionary; also better with common computing terms).
- Custom spellchecking dictionary - so you can add your own words.
- Starts faster (although this won't be as noticeable on really old machines).
- "Pad" - a text file that sits in the Side Panel and will automatically
be opened and saved whenever the main file is. You can have one Pad file for
each main file, and use it to store "to do" lists, character names,
plot synopses, internet research links... basically whatever you like.
- Phrases have been replaced with AutoWords and Clips. AutoWords complete
automatically as you type and you can now store as many as you like. Clips
act just like the Windows clipboard and are useful for pasting larger quantities
of text. Both are memorised after RoughDraft is shut down.
- User-defined font styles.
- Zoom function for magnifying the main document area.
- Association with the ".rtf" file extension, so you can double-click
on an RTF file and it will open in RoughDraft.
- Paragraph numbering option.
- Manual indenting of paragraphs.
- Show "RTF only" or "All files" in "Files"
Side Panel.
- Option for converting curly quotes to straight quotes and vice versa.
- Clicking on internet links starts your browser and takes you to the specified
site.
- You can go directly to the first or last page in the Print Preview.
- Choice of two page numbering styles when printing.
- Some useful internet research links in the Help menu.
Bug Fixes:
- No more TVSSpell error messages when starting (which was due to compatibility
problems with the spellchecking component if it had previously been installed
by another program).
- No more errors when creating a new document (which was due to an out of
date system file on some Windows 95 systems).
- Phrases are now remembered after restarting RoughDraft.
- Word count on the cover page is now accurate when printing a single file
(in version 1.0 it was counting the words in all open files).
Other Things:
- The "Options" window can take a while to open if you have a lot
of fonts on your system (the good news is that the program as a whole starts
quicker as a result).
- I've changed a few of the keyboard shortcuts to something more logical -
apologies if you've become used to one of the old shortcuts.
